Crime: Murder - 15 counts
Jeffrey Dahmer committed his first murder in the summer of 1978. He became one of the most well known serial killers, by murdering 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. His crimes were particularly gruesome, including rape, torture, dismemberment, necrophilia and probably what he is most well known for, cannibalism. In July of 1991 one of Dahmer’s victims counter-attacked him and escaped. He went to the police and Dahmer was later arrested.
In 1992, Dahmer’s trial began where he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The court found Dahmer sane and guilty of 15 counts of murder. He was sentenced to 15 back to back life sentences, totaling 957 years in prison.
On November 28, 1994, Jeffrey Dahmer was beaten to death by a fellow inmate. His brain was retained for study.
